Australian Ultra-long - Major Prize

Show Profile  glawford Posted: 6 February 2013, 7:44 AM
On Saturday April 6 Eureka Orienteers are organising an ultra-long, mass start, O race near Ballarat (winning time for elites between 1h 35m and 2h 30m depending on class). The terrain is complex mining and gully/spur with fast running. We are keen to attract elite athletes to the race and are offering a major prize of a return flight to Europe plus entry to a major European event in 2013 such as Oringen (total value AUD$2500). The prize will be awarded to the elite class winner with the most internationally competitive kilometre rate for their age/gender class. This prize is open to New Zealanders - for flights starting from and returning to New Zealand. Entries for the event will open soon. Meanwhile the organisers (Geoff Lawford and Jenny Bourne) can be contacted at gjlawford2@bigpond.com

thought it was great to see how Orienteering Australia named their JWOC team at a main event(Easter event) and the kids got to stand up there in front of everyone as proud as punch.....would be lovely to see that sort of thing happen here?

Well done Lizzie! She's taking all the wins/titles here in Australia! For the next few days there is a short write-up on the OA home page: www.orienteering.asn.au

A short quote from the page: "The Ultra Long Championship event held at Creswick today provided testing courses for all age classes. Lizzie Ingham (ACT) continued her brilliant autumn of orienteering by taking out the top prize of $2,500 towards a flight to Europe for a major orienteering event. This was decided on the basis of pre-determined comparative kilometre rates between the elite and M&W20 E classes".........
