2015 NZ Schools Champs in Nelson Area

Show Profile  mcroxford Posted: 19 August 2014, 3:58 PM
Hi all. Remember last year when talking to someone at Nationals that they were keen on knowing well in advance accommodation options for the NZ Schools Champs because of the numbers that they were anticipating. Well here are some options for large groups next year. The Sprint will be held in Motueka on the afternoon of Thursday 16 July 2015. The High School, Parklands School and CBD are now embargoed for orienteering. The Long and the Relay will be on the Eastern end of Rabbit Island on the Friday and on Rough Island on the Saturday respectively. Please don't book the 2.00pm flight back from Nelson to Auckland on the Saturday. We will not have finished by then. Either book the 4.45pm or 6.20pm flight or go via other airports.

Hope to see you then!
Michael

Thanks! - that is incredibly helpful with advance planning for schools and giving parents a heads up for next year.

Anyone able to give a similar briefing on the dates/times/locations etc for the NISS?

Show Profile  Martin Posted: 20 August 2014, 8:14 AM
the long term major events calendar has one of Wellington/Hutt Valley/Red Kiwis scheduled to host NISS. Dates will be the last weekend of the Term 1/2 school holidays. Probably sprint thursday afternoon, long friday, relay saturday.

Applications to NZSSSC to sanction the events are due in September so the information you're after will be available shortly I imagine.

I saw Wellington in advance listings too, but I keep hearing Hawkes bay on the grapevine. Anyone able to confirm or deny?

Show Profile  AlanHorn Posted: 26 August 2014, 6:54 AM
from what Ive heard:
NISS = Red Kiwis
WOA Champs = Hawkes Bay

Bethany Park is apparently now booked by an Auckland contingent to the NZSSC. Best start looking at the listings above if you are looking to bring a big group!!!

Can't vouch for Bethany, but an Auckland contingent has certainly booked Teapot Valley (we still probably have some room though)

Below are the links to the main bus charter firms in the Nelson Marlborough Area.

Remember it is roughly a 2.5 hour drive from Picton to Nelson. Given that starts are between 2 and 4pm and the morning ferry berths just before 12pm then please book a Wednesday sailing if coming by ferry.

Congratulations to the NZ Schools team. All the best for NZSS in July and then Australia later in the year.

More than 2 weeks after the event and they are still 'investigating' as to what the results should be. Is this your way of asking for help for ONZ Nationals next year?

Show Profile  Michael Posted: 4 August 2015, 7:10 AM
Somewhere, I've seen the controllers report and the outcome.

Show Profile  mcroxford Posted: 4 August 2015, 10:13 AM
Being a volunteer, the second report was only completed today and will be on the website hopefully tonight. I am not the volunteer in charge of our club's website. Hence why I say hopefully.

I note that the ONZ rules give us up to 4 weeks to release the official results though.

Almost the point I was getting at - do you volunteers need to look at whether you need help next year, because I'm not volunteering my money and holidays going to what should be the premier event in our Orienteering calendar if it going to be "a bloody shambles" as quoted by an attendee of the NZSSC.

Show Profile  Paul I Posted: 4 August 2015, 10:53 AM
Greg for a second there I thought you were volunteering to help

Show Profile  mcroxford Posted: 4 August 2015, 11:35 AM
Thank you Greg for your comments. I look forward to hearing from the "attendee" if he/she wishes to raise any specific matters with us.

Nelson Orienteering Club, of course, look forward to hosting you and your family Greg at the Nationals next year, if you do choose to come.
